The 2019 vintage for Le Macchiole Paleo was blessed with a particularly hot and sunny summer, punctuated by timely and beneficial rainfall. Harvest took place between September 19th and October 9th. Notably, the 2019 Paleo incorporated grapes from the Ulivino vineyard for the first time, a 2.7-hectare plot planted in 2015, situated 70 meters above sea level and surrounded by forest, facing the sea. This Cabernet Franc, planted with an east/west exposure, is expected to contribute additional power and freshness to the wine. Paleo has been a 100% Cabernet Franc since 2001, pioneering this varietal in Bolgheri. This wine reveals an extremely precise and etched personality, perfectly suited to this classic vintage. The bouquet is linear and tight, with notes of wet gravel, lead pencil, and graphite elegantly framing blackberry and black plum. It's a complex and powerful expression, with secondary aromas of cardamom pod, exotic spice, and fragrant rose water emerging upon aeration. Dark and crimson in color, it showcases restrained cassis wrapped in spices and milk chocolate, with assertive eucalyptus and delicious Parma violet. The palate is juicy and almost zesty, velvety, and interwoven with tannins soaked in violet and cassis, leading to remarkable length with integrated toastiness. 【Italy's landmark expression of Cabernet Franc, showcasing extreme precision and complexity】. This full-bodied, powerful, and polished red offers aromas of dark plums, dark cherries, tobacco, bay leaves, dark chocolate, mocha, and cedar. It possesses firm, ripe tannins, compact and muscular, yet remains fresh. While it can be enjoyed now, it will soften and truly shine after 2025, with a drinking window extending through 2039.
Food pairing suggestions: Given its power and complexity, Paleo Rosso pairs beautifully with rich, savory dishes. Think roasted lamb, beef tenderloin, game meats, or aged hard cheeses. The wine's spice notes would also complement dishes with a touch of Mediterranean herbs.
Event suggestions: An excellent choice for a celebratory dinner, a special occasion, or a serious wine tasting. Its aging potential also makes it a fantastic addition to any cellar for future enjoyment.
