🏰The 2003 Geoff Merrill Henley Shiraz is a 【strict barrel selection of the best McLaren Vale Shiraz】, named in honor of Geoff Merrill's grandfather who lived to 102. The 2003 vintage in McLaren Vale saw fruit from 40-year-old vines, producing a wine capable of long-term cellaring. This deep red Shiraz, with a brick red hue, offers an intense and layered nose of leathery plum, cedar, and a dash of cinnamon, evolving into fine old polish and dusty bookshop notes. The palate is elegant and tightly structured with excellent acid-tannin balance, showcasing dense plum lifted by quality oak, superfine tannins, and gentle spices, leading to a long and memorable finish.
🍴This rich and harmonious Shiraz pairs beautifully with classic meat dishes. Consider robust pairings like roast lamb, beef bourguignon, or hearty stews. Aged cheeses would also be a delightful match.
🥂Perfect for a special dinner or a contemplative evening, this wine is drinking beautifully now and will continue to evolve. For older wines like this 2003, expect some natural sediment. Carefully check the cork and capsule before opening. Decant for at least an hour to allow the wine to fully express its mature bouquet and soften any remaining tannins. Serve at a cool cellar temperature, around 16-18°C (60-64°F).
