🏰 The 2020 Joseph Drouhin Bonnes Mares Grand Cru is a 【magnificent and age-worthy Burgundy Pinot Noir, highlighted by remarkable concentration and an exceptional acid-sugar balance】. The 2020 vintage is considered a great year to cellar, producing wines with a beautiful, intense ruby-red color. This Grand Cru offers a highly perfumed and precise bouquet, reminiscent of Christophe Roumier's Bonnes-Mares, with complex and expressive aromas of sour cherry, cherrywood, and raspberry, subtly hinting at tobacco. On the palate, it is full-bodied with seamlessly integrated tannins, contributing to a ripe, velvety feel, and an excellent balance between structure and texture, culminating in a remarkably long, structured, and saline finish. As it ages, expect notes of truffle and musk to emerge.
🍴 This grand wine deserves the best accompaniment: prime red meats such as roast or confit duck, game, roast lamb, or wild hare. More delicate pairings like guinea fowl or partridge would also be excellent. It harmonizes beautifully with aged cheeses that have nutty or earthy flavors.
🥂 A rare and generous wine, the 2020 Bonnes Mares Grand Cru is perfect for the greatest occasions and has an optimal aging potential of 15 to 25 years, with peak potential extending to around 2050-2060. It can be enjoyed now, but patience will be richly rewarded.
BACKGROUND
Joseph Drouhin is one of Burgundy's most important wine producers, France. The primary grape variety is Pinot Noir, with a small portion being Chardonnay. Founded in Beaune in 1880, the domaine has expanded throughout the 20th Century to include vineyards in Chablis, the Côte de Nuits, the Côte de Beaune and the Côte Chalonnaise, making everything from simple, village-level cuvées to highly priced grand cru and premier cru wines from Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
