FEATURES
🏰 The 2005 vintage in Burgundy was a powerful year, with a cold spring giving way to a warm, sunny summer. While yields were not abundant in some appellations, the quality of the berries produced dense, deep nectars with exalting freshness of fruit, making it a vintage built for keeping. Hubert Lignier's Clos de la Roche Grand Cru 2005 offers a deep, brooding, and almost taciturn nose of black berry fruit, intense violet notes, spice hints, and iron-infused earth. The palate is sweet, rich, and exceptionally fresh, with big-bodied flavors that are textured and saturate the palate with dry extract, balanced by ripe yet very firm tannins. Further tasting notes reveal a deep red color, a rich buttery texture, notes of fresh ripe fruit, and a long aftertaste marked by minerals, animal notes, resin, and herbs. Aromas of ripe black cherry, blackberry, gingerbread, and fruit cake are complemented by spice and undergrowth. Some bottles are just starting to develop tertiary nuances of smoke, leather, game, licorice, and dark-fleshed fruits, showcasing off-the-charts richness and intensity with brisk, saline notes. 【One of Burgundy's most renowned wines, from a Grand Cru vineyard with exceptional terroir.】
🍴 This profound red Burgundy is an excellent match for complex veal dishes, roast lamb, roast duck with berry sauce, and aged cheeses.
🥂 This wine has significant cellar potential, easily delivering two decades or more. It is now approaching its first plateau of maturity, making it an excellent choice for drinking now and over the next two decades. Given its age and structure, decanting for 1-2 hours is recommended to allow its complex aromas to fully unfold. Serve at 16-18°C (60-64°F).
