🏰 The 2018 Champagne vintage was truly exceptional, hailed as the start of a 'golden trilogy' of vintages (2018, 2019, 2020). Following a wet winter that replenished water reserves, a consistently warm and dry summer provided ideal conditions for even ripening, resulting in both quality and quantity. The wines are noted for their unusual ripeness combined with surprising freshness, purity of fruit, radiant aromatics, and a seamless balance without heaviness. Pinot Noir, in particular, ripened perfectly.
Benoît Déhu's Brut Nature L'Orme 2018 is a powerful Blanc de Noirs, crafted from 100% Pinot Noir from a tiny 1.5-hectare single parcel previously planted with elm trees (orme in French). This barrel-aged, zero-dosage cuvée is known for its personality, complexity, and a never-ending finish. Déhu, an 8th-generation vigneron, farms his vines biodynamically, with some parcels worked by horse, and ferments with natural yeasts in oak barrels made from local trees. The resulting wines are intense, vibrant, resonant, and powerful, with a distinctly vinous style.
🍴 This complex Brut Nature Champagne pairs wonderfully with a range of dishes, including stinky cheeses, roast white meats, dishes with white sauces, and fried foods. Its vinous character also makes it suitable for more substantial gastronomic pairings.
🥂 An excellent choice for a sophisticated aperitif, a gastronomic dinner, or a celebration for those who appreciate artisanal, low-intervention Champagnes. Its rarity and unique production philosophy make it a conversation starter. 【Benoît Déhu is an 8th-generation vigneron renowned for his biodynamic farming practices and crafting single-parcel, zero-dosage Champagnes like L'Orme, with barrels made from trees on his own property.】
