FEATURES
🏰 The 1990 Chateau de Pommard Grand Vin is a 【magnificent expression of mature red Burgundy】, hailing from an excellent vintage known for ripe fruit, good concentration, and superb aging potential. While specific reviews for this exact wine are not widely available, the 1990 Burgundy vintage is highly regarded. Expect a powerful, structured Pinot Noir with notes of 【dark cherry, blackcurrant, and plum, which have gracefully evolved into earthy, gamey, and spicy tertiary aromas like truffle, leather, and forest floor】. The palate should reveal firm tannins that have softened beautifully with age, balanced by good acidity and leading to a long, contemplative finish. 🍴 This grand vin is an ideal partner for roasted red meats, classic game birds, rich mushroom dishes, or a selection of aged hard cheeses. 🥂 A truly special wine for a celebratory dinner, a memorable occasion for dedicated Burgundy lovers, or a fascinating vertical tasting exploring the evolution of older vintages. Serving for old wine: This 1990 Pommard is a mature wine. Stand the bottle upright for a day or two to allow any sediment to settle. Decant gently, about 1-2 hours before serving, to remove sediment and allow it to open up. Serve at cellar temperature, around 16-18°C (60-64°F), in large Burgundy glasses. Be prepared for a potentially fragile cork.
BACKGROUND
Chateau de Pommard is a winery and wine merchant located in the Burgundy region. While best known for its namesake Pommard wine, the portfolio also includes a range of Pinot Noir and Pinot Noir from across the Côte d'Or. Chardonnay wine. This also includes some grand cru wines. In addition to its two unique chateau buildings, the winery has 20 hectares (50 acres) of walled vineyard Clos Marey-Monge. The estate dates back to its founding in 1726 by a nobleman of the court of Louis XV. The property was purchased by Maurice Giraud in 2003 and an improvement plan was implemented. In 2016 it was acquired by Silicon Valley businessman Michael Baum, whose team has begun converting the estate to biodynamic farming.
