🏰【Crafted by Seiichi Saito, a Japanese expat with a chef's palate and experience with legendary Burgundian winemakers, this 2021 Petit-Roy offers textural, soulful Pinot Noir with personality and minerality】 Seiichi Saito, the man behind Petit-Roy, is a Japanese expat with Chinese origins who studied wine in Beaune. He gained experience with renowned winemakers like Patrick Bize, Freddy Mugnier, Rousseau, and Leflaive. He works 2.1 hectares of regional appellations biodynamically and also purchases grapes from friends. For reds, he favors whole cluster fermentation, limits extraction, uses minimal SO2, and prefers bottling without fining or filtration. The 2021 vintage is described as having an expressive nose and decent palate, feeling like a cooler vintage, and being very well done for its classification and price. Expressive nose and decent palate. The wines are textural, full of soul, perfectly ripe and supple, oozing with personality and minerality. They are savory, saline, and beautifully ripe. It can show notes reminiscent of Gevrey, Vosne, and Fixin.
🍴 Pairs wonderfully with roast white meats, braised dishes, meaty fish, and red sauce dishes. Also excellent with beef, veal, and game (deer, venison).
🥂 An excellent choice for a casual yet refined dinner, a gathering with friends, or exploring the nuances of artisanal Burgundy.
