FEATURES
🏰 This Chateau Bahans Haut Brion 1978, the former second wine of the esteemed Chateau Haut Brion, is 【a rare find, offering a glimpse into a bygone era of Bordeaux winemaking】. As an "old wine," it has evolved beautifully, presenting a delicate profile with expected notes of dried fruit, leather, tobacco, and earthy undertones, all supported by softened, harmonious tannins. While specific vintage reports for Bahans Haut Brion 1978 are scarce, the general character of mature Bordeaux suggests a wine of profound complexity and elegance. 🍴 This venerable red Bordeaux is a classic pairing for beef and venison. It also shines with simpler preparations like a perfectly roasted chicken or aged hard cheeses, allowing its delicate, evolved flavors to truly sing. 🥂 An exceptional choice for a very special occasion, a milestone anniversary, or a contemplative tasting for those who appreciate the profound beauty of mature Bordeaux. Serving Suggestion: This venerable 1978 vintage requires careful handling. Stand the bottle upright for at least 24-48 hours before serving to allow any sediment to settle. Decant gently just before serving to separate the wine from its natural sediment and allow it to breathe for a short period, perhaps 30-60 minutes, to awaken its complex aromas without over-exposing its delicate structure. Be mindful of the cork and capsule, as they may be fragile. Serve at 15.5 degrees Celsius (60 degrees Fahrenheit).
It is a full-bodied red wine from Bordeaux, France, with rich flavors of dark fruits, spices, and a hint of oak, complemented by a long, satisfying finish.
BACKGROUND
Château Haut-Brion is the oldest of Bordeaux's five first growths, and one of the most famous wines in the world. Located in Pessac-Léognan, south of the city of Bordeaux, France. The majority of the estate's 51 hectares (126 acres) of vineyard is planted to red varieties with Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot covering 48 hectares (118 acres) while three hectares (7.5 acres) are given over to Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon. The vineyards were established in the 1530s by the Pontac family, changing hands several times throughout the ensuing centuries. Historical evidence shows that Haut-Brion was drunk by King Charles II and Thomas Jefferson, and the famous London diarist Samuel Pepys was also a fan of the wine.
