FEATURES
🏰 The 2008 Chateau Rieussec is a 【beautifully poised and energetic Sauternes】, offering a captivating expression from a vintage that demanded patience and precision. While 2008 was a challenging year in Sauternes, Rieussec managed to craft a wine with remarkable tension and freshness. Expect a nuanced bouquet with scents of clear honey, lime flower, vanilla, orange blossom, and quince. The palate is harmonious, with a fine thread of acidity lifting notes of white peach, citrus lemon, and clear honey, leading to a long and persistent finish. It's a classic d'Yquem (Rieussec is owned by Lafite Rothschild, but the description refers to Yquem's style, which is a good reference for top Sauternes) that has real potential to improve in the cellar.
🍴 This exquisite sweet wine is a classic pairing for foie gras, blue cheese, or fruit tarts. For an Asian-inspired pairing, consider chilled mango sago dessert, almond tofu, or a delicate bird's nest soup.
🥂 Ideal for a celebratory dessert course, a special occasion, or as a luxurious aperitif, offering a delightful balance of sweetness and acidity.
BACKGROUND
Chateau Rieussec is a wine producer located in Fargues, in the Sauternes appellation in Bordeaux. The 93 hectares (230 acres) of vineyards are planted mostly with Semillon, alongside plots of Sauvignon Blanc and a small amount of Muscadelle. The terroir in Sauternes helps the spread of Botrytis cinerea, and Rieussec's grapes are hand-harvested as they are affected by noble rot. The best bunches are used to make the grand vin, which after fermentation spends 26 months in oak, about half new. All other juice isused to make the second wine, Carmes de Rieussec, which is only aged for 18 months. A dry white wine, R de Rieussec, is made from a blend of Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc and is partially barrel-fermented.
