Duroche, Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaux Saint Jacques, 2018
🏰Domaine Duroché's Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaux Saint Jacques 2018 is a hallmark of Burgundian excellence, showcasing the refined and elegant style of Pierre Duroché, a rising star in Gevrey-Chambertin. Despite a generally warm 2018 vintage, Duroché's early harvest and meticulous approach yielded fragrant, elegant, and unusually vibrant wines. This Premier Cru offers an aromatic profile of 【dark berry fruit, cherries, woodsmoke, and forest floor, with hints of rose petal and crushed rocks】. The palate is medium to full-bodied, elegant, and enveloping, characterized by fine-boned structure, lively acidity, and delicate extraction, culminating in a superb weight of sweet dark cherry fruit with a spicy mineral tingle.
🍴 This elegant red Burgundy pairs beautifully with roasted game birds like duck or quail, mushroom risotto, beef tenderloin, or a selection of mature, earthy cheeses.
🥂 An excellent example of modern, refined Gevrey-Chambertin, this wine is suitable for a special dinner or for cellaring to allow further development. It's a testament to Duroché's ability to produce wines of grace and definition.
This wine is still relatively young and will benefit from decanting for 1-2 hours. Serve at 16-18°C (60-64°F).
BACKGROUND
Domaine Duroche is a famous manor located in Gevrey-Chambertin in the Côte de Nuits region of Burgundy. The winery is owned and operated by Pierre Duroché, the fifth generation of the Duroché family, and specializes in the production of Pinot Noir red wine. The winery grows grapes in four Grand Crus, first planted in 1920 and now has a total of about 8 hectares (20 acres) of vines. Situated on soil rich in limestone and containing small amounts of sand marl. Wine is made without fining or filtration. In addition to its Grand Cru vineyards, it also owns three Gevrey-Chambertin Premier Cru vineyards. The winery produces five village wines from the village of Côte de Nuits, as well as two Burgundy wines, one of which is a Chardonnay-based Burgundy white.
