🏰 The 2018 vintage in the Northern Rhône was part of an exceptional series, yielding forceful and forward wines. E. Guigal's La Turque, a flagship Côte-Rôtie, is a blend of 93% Syrah and 7% Viognier, hailing from the powerful Côte Brune terroir. This vintage has garnered immense critical acclaim, receiving 100 points from both Jeb Dunnuck and Wine Advocate, and 96 points from Wine Spectator. It is aged for an extensive 42 months in 100% new French oak. 【 Consistently 100-point rated flagship Côte-Rôtie from the legendary "La La" series 】
👃 Deep ruby red, the wine offers intensely aromatic notes of small red fruit, blackberry, and morello cherry, with a powerful elegance. The nose bursts with chocolate, espresso, smoke, spice, flowers, and cherry, alongside meatier, savory, mineral-driven aromatics and a core of pure cassis. Hints of Moroccan spices, potpourri, olive, and smoky minerals are also present.
👅 The palate presents a supple attack with a balanced structure, concentration, and elegant tannins. It is full-bodied, powerful, intense, balanced, and lively, with layers of fruit that coat the palate. Densely packed cassis, bitter cherry, and violet pastille flavors are underscored by juicy acidity. The finish is wonderfully long and subtly chewy, shaped by dusty, steadily building tannins.
🍴 This powerful and elegant wine calls for substantial pairings such as venison haunch roasted over juniper, duck breast with cherry and cocoa, or rich lamb dishes. It also complements mushroom and chestnut pithivier, or grilled celeriac with miso.
🥂 The 2018 La Turque is a wine built for the long haul, generally needing a decade to truly open up and expected to drink beautifully between 2030 and 2050. It is a prime candidate for perfection with proper cellaring, making it ideal for a grand celebration, a serious collector's tasting, or a milestone anniversary dinner.
