🏰 **Henri Jayer Richebourg Grand Cru 1981** is a legendary and exceptionally rare wine from a vintage that, while challenging for Burgundy overall, saw some Grand Cru vineyards escape with minimal harm. While the 1981 Burgundy vintage was generally disappointing due to frosts and heavy rains, Jayer's meticulous winemaking often transcended vintage limitations. General Jayer Richebourg tasting notes describe an 【exceptionally creamy nose and palate, with excellent tension and balance, present tannins, and good acids】. Expect mature notes of dried fruit, forest floor, and subtle spice, with softened tannins and a lingering, ethereal finish, possibly showing some bricking in color.
🍴 This iconic aged Burgundy pairs exquisitely with refined dishes such as roasted duck with figs, game in rich sauces, beef Wellington, or a selection of aged hard cheeses.
🥂 This is a monumental wine for a truly special, intimate occasion, a testament to the enduring legacy of Henri Jayer. It's a collector's dream, perfect for a milestone anniversary or a gathering of serious wine connoisseurs. Due to its age, stand the bottle upright for several days before serving. Decant carefully, just before serving, to separate any sediment, but avoid excessive aeration to preserve its delicate, evolved aromas. Be mindful of the cork and capsule condition, as is common with such venerable bottles. Expect a whisper of history in every glass.
BACKGROUND
Henri Jayer is a Burgundy red wine producer known for making some of the most acclaimed and expensive Pinot Noirs in the world. Jayer retired from winemaking in 2001 and died in 2006, leaving the winery to his nephew Emmanuel Rouget, with all vintages since 2001 released in his name. Henri Jayer's wines were produced in limited quantities and in dwindling quantities, making them some of the most collectible and expensive wines in the world. While critically acclaimed, the reputation of Jayer wines was further enhanced by the emergence of wine-related books such as the Japanese manga series Drops of God. The brand itself was founded by Jayer when he inherited 3 hectares (7 acres) of land in the Côte d'Or, which included land in the Grand Cru Echézeaux vineyard.
