🏰 The 2014 vintage in Burgundy for red wines was generally considered a good, classic vintage, producing elegant wines with good freshness and structure, though it was a challenging year with variable weather. Launay Horiot's Chambertin Grand Cru 2014, from one of Burgundy's most revered Grand Cru vineyards, would embody these characteristics. While specific detailed tasting notes for this exact wine and vintage are not readily available in the provided snippets, Chambertin Grand Cru wines are typically known for their profound depth, complexity, and longevity. They often exhibit aromas of red and black fruits, forest floor, spice, and floral notes, with a powerful yet refined palate and firm tannins that soften with age. 【A classic Chambertin Grand Cru from a challenging yet rewarding vintage, promising elegance and longevity】.
🍴 This powerful and complex red Burgundy demands equally robust and refined food pairings. Consider roasted game meats like venison or wild boar, classic French beef dishes such as Côte de Boeuf, or rich mushroom-based preparations. Aged, hard cheeses would also be an excellent accompaniment.
🥂 Ideal for a significant formal dinner, a special anniversary, or a serious wine tasting among connoisseurs. This wine is built for aging and will reward patience, making it a perfect choice for a future milestone celebration.
BACKGROUND
Domaine Launay-Horiot is a wine producer based in the village of Pommard, in the Côte de Beaune subregion of Burgundy. It makes a range of Pinot Noir based wines from the Pommard and Gevrey-Chambertin appellations, the latter further north in the Côte de Nuits. The domaine covers around four hectares (10 acres) of vineyard although prior to an inheritance dispute in the early 2000s, the wider family holdings covered over 10 hectares (25 acres). The domaine is overseen by former fighter pilot Xavier Horiot.
