🏰 The 2011 vintage in Burgundy was notably challenging, marked by a warm spring and early budburst, followed by a dip in summer temperatures and a late June heatwave. Despite these hurdles, Domaine Armand Rousseau crafted a wine of distinction, showcasing their mastery. This vintage also marked the introduction of a redesigned bottle, embossed with the domaine name to prevent fraud.
This Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Saint-Jacques 1er Cru is described as flat-out gorgeous, offering an intense and explosive profile with waves of blue/purplish fruit, embodying pure class and pedigree. It impresses with its richness, power, and depth, presenting a deep, full-bodied, and solid core. Tasting notes reveal an earthy bouquet with prominent stems, yet it remains well-defined, fresh, and vital, opening beautifully in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp, linear tannins and higher acidity, lending tension and race to the finish. Expect a long aftertaste with spicy black fruit and blackcurrant pastilles, showcasing a more masculine and structured style. Further nuances include red and darker forest berries, a strong impression of new oak, and a beautifully balanced structure with fine minerality. Peppery aromas of cherry and liquorice lead to an ample mouthfeel with notes of blackcurrant and sap, supported by lovely persistent tannins. 【A flat-out gorgeous expression from a challenging vintage, showcasing Rousseau's mastery and the Clos St. Jacques' Grand Cru-like quality.】
🍴 This elegant red Burgundy pairs wonderfully with classic dishes such as hare stew, venison, or a selection of mature cheeses.
🥂 Ideal for a sophisticated dinner party or a special occasion where a wine with proven aging potential and a complex profile is desired. It's a contemplative wine that rewards patience.
