🏰 The 1993 vintage in Burgundy was a challenging year with heavy rainfall and mildew, but a hot and dry August helped ripen the grapes. Reds from the Côte de Nuits, like this Clos Vougeot, generally fared well, producing powerful, concentrated wines with firm tannins built for aging. While some 1993s may be past their peak, top estates like Leroy can still offer rewarding experiences. This particular Clos Vougeot Grand Cru from Domaine Leroy is a testament to Cistercian viticultural art, known for its ethereal tones and complexity. Expect a deep ruby color with faint earth and mocha notes, evolving into raisined, meaty, and smoky nuances. The palate offers baked raspberries and intense fruit, balanced by perfect acidity and furry tannins. 【One of the most prestigious testimonies of Cistercian viticultural art in Burgundy, known for its ethereal tones and complexity.】
🍴 This opulent red Burgundy pairs magnificently with noble red meats such as beef rib or leg of lamb, furred game like roe deer or wild boar, and Bresse poultry in sauce. Traditional Burgundian braised dishes like beef bourguignon or coq au vin also reveal its richness. Character cheeses such as Époisses, Chaource, or Maroilles create harmonious pairings.
🥂 This is a wine for grand gastronomic occasions and celebrations, a true collector's item to be savored. Given its age, handle with care. The cork may be fragile, so use a Durand or an Ah-So opener. Decant gently to separate any sediment, allowing it to breathe for an hour or two to fully express its complex bouquet. Serve at around 16-18°C (60-64°F).
