🏰 The 2020 Belargus Veau is a 【stunning expression of Chenin Blanc from an ancient vineyard】, showcasing the exceptional terroir of the Veau vineyard with its schist soils and old twisted vines. This vintage is particularly noted for its purity and elegance, making it a standout example of what Anjou Chenin Blanc can achieve. Domaine Belargus, under Ivan Massonnat, is revolutionizing Anjou wines with a focus on single plots, old vines, low yields, and organic/biodynamic practices.
🍴 This vibrant and complex Chenin Blanc pairs beautifully with a variety of dishes, including vegetarian options, poultry, rich fish like salmon or tuna, and mild to soft cheeses. Its saline finish also makes it an excellent match for shellfish.
🥂 A wonderful Chenin Blanc for those who appreciate tension, minerality, and elegance. It's perfect for a sophisticated dinner, a special gathering with friends, or as a testament to the exciting developments in Loire Valley winemaking.
BACKGROUND
Domaine Belargus is a relatively new but highly acclaimed estate in the Anjou region of the Loire Valley, founded by Ivan Massonnat. The domaine is dedicated to expressing the diverse terroirs of Chenin Blanc through single-vineyard cuvées. 'Le Veau' is a steep, south-facing parcel with schist soils. This dry Chenin Blanc is powerful and structured, offering complex aromas of ripe orchard fruit, quince, and a distinct smoky minerality, with a long, tension-filled finish.
