🏰 【A pioneering 100% Tannat Madiran that made waves in the wine world, crafted from Montus' highest plots with 30-year-old vines, known for its atypical, generous character and rich, opulent profile.】 The 2011 Montus Madiran Cuvee Prestige, first produced in 1985, gained renown for outperforming many top French wines. Sourced from steep, south-facing slopes with rounded pebbles and clay subsoil, it ensures optimal grape ripeness. The wine undergoes 3 to 6 weeks of maceration, fermentation in wooden vats, and 14 to 16 months of aging in 100% new barrels. The 2011 vintage offers a Bordeaux-like nose with dark plums, leather, and oak spice, presenting an inky, impenetrable hue. The palate is surprisingly elegant and lean, with dominant freshness leading to the characteristic mouth-coating tannins of Tannat.
🍴 This wine is a beautiful accompaniment to red meat, especially a fat, juicy steak grilled to perfection, and herb-salted French fries. It also pairs well with lamb, duck, mushroom-based dishes, chocolate and red fruit desserts, exotic cuisine, and blue cheese.
🥂 Ideal for a hearty dinner, a special occasion featuring rich meats, or for connoisseurs who appreciate a powerful, age-worthy red. Decanting for 45 minutes or more is recommended to allow it to open up and soften its tannins. It can be enjoyed now but will continue to evolve.
It is said that it's drink window opened only after 20 years aging, and possible to be stored for up to 50 years. The aging potential is comparable to that of Petrus. Rich black fruits and exotic floral aromas, mixed with complex spices (leather, earthy aromas), perfectly presented under the influence of French oak barrels, making it attractive.
