FEATURES
🏰 The 2017 vintage in Burgundy was generally very good, with winemakers finally experiencing a year of normal yields and healthy fruit after the challenging 2016 season. The red wines of 2017 are characterized by magnificent balance, sweet, crystalline red fruit flavours, and a soft, silky, subtle tannic mouthfeel, reminiscent of the much underrated 2000 vintage. Many excellent wines can be found across all classifications, from regional Bourgogne to Grand Cru. The 2017 reds are described as having plenty of fragrance, attractive fruit, lacy tannins, strong terroir character, and an overall air of transparency and approachability, making them a good 'restaurant vintage' that is exuberantly drinkable on release. Some critics note that while the 2017 reds are very good, often excellent, they might slightly lack concentration compared to more powerful vintages like 2015 and 2016. Jérôme Castagnier, a fifth-generation grower, took over his family's domaine in the early 2000s and has since gained recognition for meticulous vineyard management and winemaking practices, including a transition towards organic farming. The Chambertin Clos de Bèze Grand Cru is one of Burgundy's most storied Grand Crus, rooted in limestone and marly soils that naturally restrict yields and concentrate flavour in the Pinot Noir grapes. Typically, wines from Clos de Bèze are deeply expressive, showcasing aromas and flavours of red and black fruits like cherry, raspberry, and blackcurrant, along with earthy undertones, spices, and floral notes such as violets. As the wine ages, it often develops nuances of forest floor, game, and truffle. Structurally, it combines vibrant acidity with firm yet refined tannins. 【A classic vintage offering immediate pleasure and clear terroir expression】.
🍴 This Grand Cru calls for refined, flavourful dishes that match its complexity without overwhelming its finesse. Think roast lamb with herbs, pigeon or duck breast with cherries, veal sweetbreads, or classic Burgundian preparations like coq au vin or boeuf bourguignon. Earthy accompaniments such as wild mushrooms, truffle risotto, or lentils with lardons also make excellent partners. Pinot Noir is a classic partner for roast duck, goose, and game birds.
🥂 The 2017 Chambertin Clos de Bèze Grand Cru is perfect for special dinners, celebrations, or intimate gatherings where a wine of elegance and depth is desired. Its approachable nature in its youth makes it suitable for enjoying now, while its structure also promises graceful evolution over 15–20 years. Serve at 15–17°C to highlight its precision and aromatic lift. In its youth, decanting for 1–2 hours is recommended to allow the bouquet to open fully.
