Ruffino winery was established in 1877 by Ilario and Leopoldo Ruffino, quickly gaining prominence in Italy. In 1913, the Folonari family took over, marking a new growth phase. The iconic Riserva Ducale was introduced in 1927. By the 1930s, Ruffino was one of Italy's most important family-run wineries. In 2000, Marco and Paolo Folonari continued the innovative legacy. Today, Ruffino owns 8 vineyards, totaling 630 hectares, making it a significant vineyard owner in the Chianti region.
