FEATURES
🏰 The 1999 vintage for Bordeaux was a year of resilience, marked by a cool, wet spring followed by a dry and warm summer. Although often overshadowed by the 2000 vintage due to unpredictable growing conditions, the 1999 Château Pape Clément performed remarkably well from bottle compared to its cask samples. It's lauded as a classic, sexy, and knockout Pessac-Léognan, boasting a surprisingly dense and rich style for the vintage.
This wine displays a deep ruby red colour with light garnet hues. The bouquet is fabulous, offering notes of smoke, blueberries, raspberry cassis, and liquid minerals, with additional aromas of cedar wood, graphite, and cigar smoke emerging with air. Dark berries and plums are complemented by spicy and slightly earthy notes, lending special depth. On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied, layered, and concentrated, with no hard edges. It features disciplined tannins and a refined structure, culminating in a long and satisfying finish with harmonious ripe fruit, spices, and a hint of smoke. The wine is currently in an excellent drinking window, with potential for further aging, anticipated to mature between 2010 and 2038.
🥂 This wine is perfect for collectors and investors, and its current excellent drinking window makes it ideal for a sophisticated dinner party or a celebratory occasion.
🍴 It pairs perfectly with rack of lamb, duck breast, or aged cheese. Classic meat dishes such as veal, pork, beef, lamb, duck, game, roast chicken, and various roasted, braised, and grilled preparations are also excellent choices. It can also complement Asian dishes and hearty fish courses like tuna, mushrooms, and pasta.
