🏰 The 2005 vintage in Burgundy was generally excellent, with low yields but high quality, balanced wines. For red Burgundy, the harvest was small but equally fine, producing concentrated grapes with deep color, ripe fruit, graceful tannins, and a fresh mouthfeel. The Méo-Camuzet Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru 2005 is described as having a deep ruby-red color with a delicate garnet glow. On the nose, it reveals a complex aroma of ripe berries, cherries, and subtle notes of earthy minerals and spices. The palate is velvety-soft and refined, with elegant tannins and balanced acidity, offering rich and layered flavors of blackcurrant, plums, and a touch of vanilla from oak aging. Critics have noted its roasted, singed meatiness along with bitter-sweet, Szechuan pepper-tinged mulberry fruit, boasting terrific density and fineness of tannin. 【 Terrific density and fineness of tannin 】
🍴 This powerful and elegant red Burgundy is an ideal partner for sophisticated dishes. Consider pairing it with roasted lamb, beef tenderloin, game birds like pheasant or duck, or a rich mushroom and truffle pasta. It also complements mature, earthy cheeses.
🥂 The Méo-Camuzet Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru 2005 is a wine for special occasions that call for a truly memorable experience. It's perfect for a formal dinner, a significant celebration, or as a prized addition to a serious wine collector's cellar, with recommendations to lock it away for 8-10 years to allow further development.
BACKGROUND
Domaine Meo-Camuzet is located in the village of Vosne-Romanee, France. The estate employs organic fertilizers and advanced cultivation techniques to maintain ecological balance in the vineyards. Coupled with the exceptional terroir and the legacy of Henri Jayer, Jean-Nicholas' efforts have elevated the estate to a top-tier winery in just a few decades. In 2003, Jean-Nicholas founded the négociant business Méo-Camuzet Frères et Soeurs. Although the grapes are purchased, the team personally supervises the vineyards to ensure the quality of the grape sources.
