Comte Georges De Vogue, Bonnes Mares Grand Cru, 2019
🏰 【An iconic Grand Cru red Burgundy from a historic domaine, known for its powerful perfume of violets and red berries, built for decades of cellaring.】 Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé is a legendary producer in Burgundy. Bonnes Mares is a prestigious Grand Cru vineyard located on the Côte d'Or mid-slope in the Côte de Nuits sub-region, straddling the communes of Chambolle-Musigny and Morey-Saint-Denis. The Vogüé parcel is entirely within the Chambolle portion, which typically yields a slightly more elegant Bonnes-Mares, heavily scented with violet and peony. The soils are a complex mix of reddish-brown gravel, limestone, white marl, clay, and flint. The 2019 vintage in Burgundy is widely considered excellent, producing wines with remarkable richness, concentration, and balance, destined for long aging.
🍴 This Grand Cru red Burgundy is exceptionally well-suited to pair with poultry, beef, fish, ham, lamb, and pork, and harmonizes beautifully with creamy sauces and spicy seasonings. It's an ideal partner for roasted game, wine-based or creamy sauces, hearty stews, and strong cheeses like Epoisses. Consider pairing it with duck breast with dried fruit, oeufs en meurette, or rare lamb chops with herbs.
🥂 A truly exceptional wine for a milestone celebration, a formal dinner, or a serious wine tasting. Its Grand Cru status and profound aging potential make it a collector's item and a magnificent centerpiece for any special occasion.
This powerful wine is not for early drinking and should ideally be cellared for at least another eight years. It is expected to develop beautifully for 15 to 20 years in the bottle. Serve at 15-16°C (59-61°F). Decanting for 1-2 hours is highly recommended to allow its complex aromas to fully unfold.
BACKGROUND
Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé is the most significant landowner in Chambolle-Musigny. Their Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru is known for its power, depth, and structure, contrasting with the ethereal nature of Musigny. It offers intense dark fruit, earthy complexity, and requires significant aging to soften its robust tannins.
