FEATURES
🏰 The 2006 Penfolds Grange vintage was relatively early, characterized by low rainfall and warm weather that contributed to early budburst and flowering. Mild to warm conditions throughout summer ensured good fruit maturation, with timely rains before harvest allowing grapes to ripen with excellent varietal character. Lower than average yields resulted in concentrated and intensely flavored grapes, making 2006 a superb vintage. This Grange, a blend of 98% Shiraz and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon, aged for 18 months in 100% new American oak hogsheads, presents a deep garnet-purple to dense blood-red color. The nose, initially youthfully mute, gradually reveals notes of warm cherries, black currants, anise, coffee, toast, soy, yeast extract, black olives, and Indian spices, alongside smoky black fruits, espresso roast, dried spice, and mineral characteristics. It offers perfumed aromas of blackberry, mixed spice, floral, game, and vanilla. On the palate, it is powerful, rich, and beautifully balanced, with a concentrated, medium to full-bodied feel and crisp acidity. Expect flavors of blackberry, mulberry, dark chocolate, and liquorice, supported by fine, plentiful, rich, persistent chalky tannins, inky complexity, and buoyancy on the mid-palate. Fresh roasted walnut, mocha, and vanilla oak notes lead to a long, structured finish with a graphite tannin plume. It's a sumptuous, weighty wine with an expansive mouthfeel and velvety texture, promising decades of graceful aging. 【Classic, inimitable, perfect Grange, embodying Max Schubert's "buoyant and ethereal" vision】.
🍴 This rich and intense Penfolds Grange pairs magnificently with robust dishes. Consider roasted red meats, such as prime rib or lamb shoulder, rich stews like oxtail, or game meats. It also stands up beautifully to aged hard cheeses. Its powerful structure and complex flavors demand equally substantial accompaniments.
🥂 An age-worthy beauty, the 2006 Grange needs a solid 5-8 years in the cellar to fully integrate its components and boasts a very long drinking window. It is an ideal choice for grand celebrations, serious wine tasting events, or as a significant investment wine. While approachable on the younger side, it will continue to develop profound complexity with further cellaring.
