Jean Jacques Confuron, Romanee Saint Vivant Grand Cru, 2020
🏰news | features + short tasting note IN ENGLISH
【From a warm and dry 2020 vintage, this Jean Jacques Confuron Romanée Saint Vivant Grand Cru is an intense and refined expression of Pinot Noir, showcasing exceptional focus and depth from this prestigious vineyard.】 The 2020 Burgundy vintage, despite being warm and dry, yielded concentrated wines, with Romanée Saint Vivant demonstrating remarkable precision and balance. Domaine Jean-Jacques Confuron, now guided by Louis Meunier, practices organic viticulture and traditional winemaking, emphasizing terroir expression.
This Grand Cru Pinot Noir offers an elegant and pure nose of black raspberry, plum, and violet, accented by notes of licorice, wet stone, Asian-style tea, sandalwood, and anise. The palate is plush and tension-filled, with vibrant acidity and fine, integrated tannins, leading to a hugely long, firm, and impeccably well-balanced finish. It is dark and brooding yet surprisingly lifted and fruit-forward, with a peppery feel and hints of dark red fruit and subtle phenolic notes.

A truly magnificent wine for a milestone celebration, a serious Burgundy tasting, or for collectors to cellar and enjoy its evolving complexity. It should be fabulous in several years and can drink through 2035+.
BACKGROUND
Domaine Jean Jacques Confuron is a wine producer located in Premeaux, near Nuits-Saint-Georges in the Côte de Nuits, Burgund, France. The viticultural portfolio is now approximately 95-percent Pinot Noir with small plantings of Chardonnay and Aligoté. The domaine has 8 hectares (19 acres) of vines across 14 appellations, including plots in the prestigious grand cru vineyards Clos de Vougeot and Romanée-Saint-Vivant. The domaine began with the marriage of Jean Confuron and Anne Marie Bouchard in 1926, bringing together the vineyards of two different families. These vineyards have been passed through the family since, and the domaine has expanded as well, picking up plots in the prestigious grand cru sites.
