🏰 The 2012 vintage for Beaujolais, including Jules Desjourneys Moulin à Vent Le Styx, was a challenging but ultimately rewarding year. The growing season was beset by hail and frost, which cut both yields and quality in places. A damp, cold spring led to problems with mildew, but better weather in the late growing season allowed surviving grapes to ripen. Careful selection during harvest was crucial. Despite the difficulties, the 2012 Beaujolais wines, particularly from Cru appellations like Moulin à Vent, delivered concentrated, fresh, and vibrant reds with relatively low alcohol levels and firm acidity. Jules Desjourneys is known for his meticulous approach, producing serious, age-worthy Gamay wines that defy the region's lighter reputation. Le Styx, from old vines, often displays intense red fruit, spicy notes, and a complex, almost savory character. 【 Concentrated, fresh, vibrant reds from a challenging vintage 】
🍴 This structured and complex Moulin à Vent would be excellent with roasted pork loin, duck confit, or a rich mushroom and truffle pasta. For an Eastern pairing, consider a Cantonese char siu (barbecue pork) or a delicate stir-fried venison.
🥂 This wine is suitable for a sophisticated dinner, a gathering of wine enthusiasts, or as a contemplative drink to appreciate the depth of Beaujolais Cru. Its aging potential also makes it a good candidate for cellaring.
BACKGROUND
Domaine Jules Desjourneys, founded by Fabien Duperray in 2007, has quickly become one of the most prestigious estates in Beaujolais. Duperray applies biodynamic farming and Burgundy-level winemaking techniques to old-vine Gamay. 'Le Styx' is a rare, powerful, and deeply concentrated Moulin-à-Vent, built for long-term cellaring.
