France Burgundy Pommard
FEATURES
🏰The 1979 Chateau de Pommard Grand Vin is a truly historic bottle from a 【legendary Burgundy estate, offering a glimpse into the past of Pommard's powerful Pinot Noir】. The 1979 vintage in Burgundy was generally considered a good, if not exceptional, vintage, producing wines that were approachable in their youth but capable of aging. At over 45 years old, this wine would have evolved significantly, likely showcasing complex tertiary aromas of dried roses, forest floor, leather, and subtle spice, with a delicate, nuanced palate and a lingering finish. It's a testament to the enduring quality of Chateau de Pommard. 🍴 This venerable red Burgundy calls for respectful pairings. Think classic French cuisine like coq au vin, roasted guinea fowl, or a simple cheese platter with aged Comté. For an Asian pairing, a delicate Cantonese braised abalone or a refined mushroom and truffle soup would be sublime. 🥂 An extraordinary choice for a very special anniversary, a significant birth year celebration, or a profound tasting experience for collectors of aged Burgundy. Given its age, handle the bottle with extreme care, especially the cork and capsule. Decant very gently to separate any sediment, and serve slightly below room temperature to allow its delicate and complex bouquet to fully express itself.
BACKGROUND
Chateau de Pommard is a winery and wine merchant located in the Burgundy region. While best known for its namesake Pommard wine, the portfolio also includes a range of Pinot Noir and Pinot Noir from across the Côte d'Or. Chardonnay wine. This also includes some grand cru wines. In addition to its two unique chateau buildings, the winery has 20 hectares (50 acres) of walled vineyard Clos Marey-Monge. The estate dates back to its founding in 1726 by a nobleman of the court of Louis XV. The property was purchased by Maurice Giraud in 2003 and an improvement plan was implemented. In 2016 it was acquired by Silicon Valley businessman Michael Baum, whose team has begun converting the estate to biodynamic farming.
