🏰 Domaine Auguste Clape is a benchmark producer in Cornas, universally celebrated for its traditional, savage yet clean Syrah wines. The 2003 vintage in the Northern Rhône was exceptionally hot, leading to powerful, concentrated wines. Clape's 2003 Cornas is described as rich, creamy, and lush, with jammy raspberry fruit, yet maintaining a remarkable sense of minerality and balance. It exhibits a sweet, liqueur-like quality to its cherry and crème de cassis flavors, complemented by salty olive, mineral, and licorice notes, with surprising freshness for the vintage. This vintage has shut down since bottling, revealing tightly wound blueberry and blackberry notes. 【 Benchmark producer of traditional Cornas Syrah 】
🍴 This powerful and concentrated Cornas would be magnificent with rich, flavorful dishes. Think roasted lamb with rosemary and thyme, wild boar stew, duck confit, or a classic cassoulet. Aged hard cheeses like Comté or mature cheddar would also be superb.
🥂 An excellent choice for a special occasion dinner, a vertical tasting of Rhône Syrah, or a gathering of serious wine collectors. Given its age, it's entering a beautiful drinking window, offering complexity and depth. Decanting for at least an hour is highly recommended to allow it to fully express itself.
