🏰The Jean-Louis Chave Hermitage Rouge 2000 is a 【testament to masterful winemaking in a challenging Northern Rhone vintage】, where top producers like Chave excelled despite mixed results across the region. While the 2000 Northern Rhone vintage was a mixed bag, Hermitage produced some very strong wines, with Chave known for his exceptional blending skill and focus on ripe tannins and restricted yields. This savory, full-tasting wine from a good vintage is still drinking well now, though it may be less long-lived than the 1999s. Expect an expressive nose of eucalyptus, earth, leather, and distinctively medicinal notes, deep and complex. On the palate, it's super dry yet reserved, with outstanding aromatic length, benefiting from 2-3 hours of decanting to reveal its full potential.
🍴 This powerful Syrah is a perfect companion for roasted lamb, game, or hearty stews like daube provencale or boeuf bourguignon. It also pairs wonderfully with game meats such as venison or wild boar, or even coarse pate and saucisson.
🥂 An excellent choice for a serious dinner, a celebration of a milestone, or a prized addition to any Rhone enthusiast's cellar. This wine offers a classic expression of Hermitage that continues to evolve beautifully.
For optimal enjoyment, decant this 2000 vintage for 2-3 hours to allow it to fully open up and separate any potential sediment. Serve at a cellar temperature of 16-18°C (60-65°F). As with any older bottle, gently check the cork for condition before opening.
BACKGROUND
Domaine Jean-Louis Chave is a powerful wine producer headquartered in the village of Mauves in the Saint-Joseph region, across the Rhone River from Hermitage. It owns about 14.5 hectares (36 acres) of land and grapes. The terraced estate now covers eight different plots on the hill, providing a range of mesoclimates and terroirs for Chave wines. Many of the vines are between 30 and 60 years old.
