🏰 Jean-Louis Chave's Hermitage Rouge 1996 is a 【legendary expression of Syrah from one of the Northern Rhône's most iconic producers, renowned for its purity, complexity, and incredible longevity.】 The 1996 vintage in the Northern Rhône was generally considered a classic, cooler vintage, yielding wines with excellent acidity and structure, perfect for long-term aging.
【Expect a profound bouquet of black olive, smoked meat, black pepper, and dark berries, interwoven with notes of garrigue, graphite, and a distinctive mineral streak.】 The palate is typically full-bodied and intensely concentrated, with firm yet refined tannins and a vibrant acidity that carries through to an exceptionally long, savory finish, showcasing the true essence of Hermitage.
🍴 This majestic Syrah is an ideal partner for robust and flavorful dishes such as roasted lamb with herbs, venison stew, or a rich beef daube. It also pairs beautifully with strong, aged cheeses. For an Asian pairing, consider a slow-cooked Cantonese beef brisket or a spicy Szechuan duck.
🥂 Perfect for a milestone celebration, a serious wine collector's tasting, or a contemplative evening enjoying a truly iconic and mature red wine. This wine is drinking beautifully now, but has many more years of graceful evolution ahead. When opening older vintages, always be mindful of the cork and capsule condition.
BACKGROUND
Domaine Jean-Louis Chave is a powerful wine producer headquartered in the village of Mauves in the Saint-Joseph region, across the Rhone River from Hermitage. It owns about 14.5 hectares (36 acres) of land and grapes. The terraced estate now covers eight different plots on the hill, providing a range of mesoclimates and terroirs for Chave wines. Many of the vines are between 30 and 60 years old.
