🏰 The 2004 vintage in Burgundy was generally considered a challenging but ultimately rewarding year, particularly for red wines. After a difficult start with a cold, wet spring and some hail, a warm and dry August helped ripen the grapes. The resulting wines often show good acidity and freshness, with a classic, savory profile rather than overt fruitiness. Geantet-Pansiot is known for producing concentrated and expressive Gevrey-Chambertin wines, often from old vines (VV stands for Vieilles Vignes, or old vines), which can add complexity and depth. 【Known for concentrated and expressive Gevrey-Chambertin from old vines.】
🍴 This Gevrey-Chambertin VV 2004, with its potential for savory notes and good acidity, would pair wonderfully with classic French cuisine such as roasted duck breast, coq au vin, or beef bourguignon. It also complements game birds, mushroom-based dishes, and aged hard cheeses.
🥂 Ideal for a traditional French dinner, a gathering of Burgundy enthusiasts, or a special occasion where a mature, complex red wine is desired. Its evolving character makes it a great choice for a contemplative evening.
BACKGROUND
Geantet-Pansiot is a wine producer located in the Côte de Nuits region of Burgundy. It is famous for its Pinot Noir wines from Gevrey-Chambertin and Chambolle-Musigny, and also produces a variety of Burgundy AOC wines. The estate was founded in 1954 when newlyweds Edmond Geantet and Bernadette Pansiot purchased a three-hectare (seven-acre) vineyard on the edge of Gevrey-Chambertin. Today, the vineyards total 13 hectares (32 acres), mainly through agricultural contracts.
