🏰 The 1997 vintage in Burgundy was a year of climatic challenges, yet it yielded some reasonably good wines, particularly from top Grand Cru estates. While the vintage was noted for being "tasty and easy to drink when young," a well-crafted Chambertin Grand Cru from a reputable producer like Moillard can offer surprising depth and evolution. Expect complex aromatics that may include earthbound whispers of truffle and sous-bois, mingling with small dark cherries and seasoned oak. The palate, even after two decades, can present a symphony of matured tannins dancing alongside bright acidity, imbuing the wine with a paradoxical vibrancy. Moillard's Chambertin Grand Cru (from a different vintage) has been described with notes of dried strawberries, jelly, roses, potpourri, moist earth, anise, and coconut, with a pure silk texture on the palate. 【A testament to a Grand Cru's ability to shine even in a challenging vintage, offering evolved complexity.】
🍴 This mature red 布根地 (Burgundy) is a superb match for classic French dishes. Consider pairing it with roasted game birds like squab or partridge, beef bourguignon, or a delicate mushroom tart. Its evolved character also makes it an excellent companion to aged, earthy cheeses such as Époisses or Comté.
🥂 This wine is ideal for a sophisticated dinner party, a special anniversary celebration, or a contemplative tasting session with fellow Burgundy enthusiasts. Its age and Grand Cru status make it a distinguished choice for occasions that call for a wine with history and elegance.
BACKGROUND
Domaine Moillard is a Burgundy wine merchant with a long history located in the Côte d'Or. It has land in the Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune, and half of its production reaches the first-class level. Produces a range of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Aligoté wines. The domaine is located in Nuits-Saint-Georges, but its 20 hectares (49 acres) of vineyard land stretch from Vougeot in the north to Volnay in the south. The domaine also owns land in several top vineyards and 73 hectares (180 acres) of organically farmed land in the Languedoc. The domaine was founded in 1850 by Symphorien Moillard and was managed by the family until 2008, when it was sold to Vincent Sauvestre.
