🏰 Joseph Drouhin's 2021 Grands Echezeaux Grand Cru is a testament to the estate's mastery in a vintage marked by contrasting climatic conditions, yielding a wine of 【remarkable freshness and elegance】. This Pinot Noir Grand Cru from the clay-limestone slopes of the Côte de Nuits offers an elegant, natural, and refined bouquet of red berry fruit, briar, and light sous-bois, with delicate aromas of ripe cherry, dark chocolate, and cocoa. With aeration, it evolves towards more complex nuances evoking forest floor, truffle, fine leather, and subtle cedarwood. The palate is powerful yet refined, carried by silky, velvety tannins, with lively acidity and a chalky minerality leading to a long and elegant finish. This wine has excellent aging potential, capable of cellaring for 15 to 20 years, with some suggesting up to three decades.
🍴 This exquisite Grand Cru Burgundy pairs beautifully with roasted or braised meats, especially lamb with aromatic herbs, duck à l'orange, or feathered game birds. It also excels with dishes featuring truffles or wild forest mushrooms, and ripe, raw-milk washed-rind cheeses like Époisses.
🥂 An exceptional choice for fine dining, a significant celebration, or as a prized addition to a Burgundy collector's cellar. This wine promises a profound and evolving experience over many years.
BACKGROUND
Joseph Drouhin is one of Burgundy's most important wine producers, France. The primary grape variety is Pinot Noir, with a small portion being Chardonnay. Founded in Beaune in 1880, the domaine has expanded throughout the 20th Century to include vineyards in Chablis, the Côte de Nuits, the Côte de Beaune and the Côte Chalonnaise, making everything from simple, village-level cuvées to highly priced grand cru and premier cru wines from Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
