Gros Frere Et Soeur, Grands Echezeaux Grand Cru, 1991
🏰 The 1991 Gros Frere et Soeur Grands Echezeaux Grand Cru hails from a 【Burgundy vintage initially overlooked but now celebrated as a 'sleeper vintage' for its exceptional reds】. Despite a challenging growing season with frost and hail, meticulous vineyard management by top producers like Gros Frere et Soeur yielded wines of remarkable quality, with some Côte de Nuits examples even surpassing the acclaimed 1990 vintage.
These fine red Burgundies have evolved beautifully, moving past their initial austerity to reveal complex tertiary characteristics alongside preserved fruit and clear terroir definition. Expect a wine that is ripe, precise, and expressive of its Grand Cru origins, with a medium-bodied structure and firm, yet integrated, tannins.
🍴 This elegant Grand Cru Burgundy is perfect for classic French dishes such as roasted duck, coq au vin, or refined mushroom-based creations. For an Asian twist, consider delicate braised pigeon or a selection of subtle, high-quality dim sum.
🥂 A truly special occasion wine, ideal for milestone anniversaries, significant celebrations, or a serious wine tasting among connoisseurs who appreciate the nuanced evolution of mature Burgundy. It's a testament to a vintage that has proven its worth over time.
Serving suggestion for this mature wine: Given its age, expect the cork to be fragile; use a Durand or Ah-So opener. Decant carefully to separate any sediment, but only shortly before serving (30-60 minutes) to preserve its delicate, evolved aromas. Serve at cellar temperature, around 16-18°C (60-64°F). Be mindful of the condition of the old cork and capsule.
