FEATURES
🏰 Chateau Musar Blanc is a unique white wine made from ancient grape varieties Obaideh and Merwah, indigenous to the mountains of Lebanon, grown on original rootstocks at high altitudes (1200-1400m). The wine is fermented with indigenous yeasts and aged in French oak barriques for 9 months, then bottled and blended, and released seven years after harvest. The 1994 vintage is described as having a mix of lanolin and marzipan on the nose and deep, slightly smoky fruits, a style with direction and promise. It's known for developing complexity over many years. It presents a clear and very shiny, yellow-golden color with shades of green. The nose offers candied fruit, caramel, honey, prunes, ripe peach, apricot, and subtle floral notes with a hint of vanilla. It can also show exciting, oaky, nuts, and ripe apple aroma. On the palate, it's full and luxurious, with a warm attack, honey preponderant, and a little refreshing acidity, or a perfect balance between freshness and creaminess. The finish is long and elegant, with lingering aromas of tropical fruit and a light mineral touch. Some notes mention evolved, sweetish, and slightly toasty aromas of roasted nuts, wizened citrus fruits, exotic spices, smoky tones, bruised apple, and honeycomb. It can be broad, ripe, and moderately full-bodied with flavors of fresh apricots, juicy Golden Delicious apples, honeyed nuances, cantaloupe, creamy tones, stony minerality, and beeswax. Some tasters found it somewhat dull and lifeless, lacking complexity and acidity, or even corked. 【Unique Lebanese white wine from ancient ungrafted grape varieties with remarkable aging capacity】.
🍴 This wine is suited to a wide range of food from rich pâtés, rillettes, and cheese (Manchego and Parmesan are specifically mentioned), to delicately spiced Asian cuisine. It excels with foie gras, seafood dishes, and spicy food due to its intense flavors. Nutty cheeses and pike-perch roasted in butter are also suggested.
🥂 An excellent choice for lovers of unique and expressive wines, suitable for a special dinner where its complex character can be appreciated. Its age makes it a conversation starter. For vintages beyond 15 years of age, Chateau Musar recommends using prongs to open the bottle. These concentrated and complex white wines show best after several hours of 'breathing time' and should be served 'cellar cool' at around 15°C (59°F). Ensure the bottle has been cellared in darkness, lying on its side, and not subjected to unnecessary movement or temperature fluctuations. Older wines can be delicate; appreciate the subtle nuances developed over decades. Be mindful of potentially fragile corks and capsules.
