🏰The 2016 Alphonse Mellot Sancerre Cuvée Edmond is the top wine from this always-impressive estate, named after Alphonse Edmond, the father of the current owner. This vintage, despite a challenging growing season with spring frost and hail in Burgundy, saw the Mâconnais and Loire Valley produce excellent whites. Cuvée Edmond is a beautifully rounded, rich, and complex Sauvignon Blanc, showcasing 【ripe peaches, golden apples, citrus, and hints of bell pepper and wet stone】. With some wood aging, it offers profound intensity, honeyed richness without residual sugar, and a long aftertaste of vanilla and nutmeg.
🍴 This Sancerre is versatile, pairing wonderfully with meaty and oily fish like grilled salmon or pan-seared tuna. It also shines with creamy Western dishes, goat cheese, or even a delicate chicken in Morel mushroom sauce. For an Eastern twist, try it with steamed scallops with garlic and vermicelli or a light, fresh seafood hotpot.
🥂 An ideal wine for a sophisticated seafood dinner, a special occasion celebrating white Burgundy, or simply to enjoy as a contemplative Sancerre that doesn't necessarily need food.
