🏰 The 2023 vintage in Burgundy saw generous yields, and Domaine Dujac's harvest commenced in early September. The wines are showing great promise, offering expressive fruit and plenty of underlying structure. Dujac is renowned for its organic farming (certified since 2011) and biodynamic practices, employing whole-cluster fermentation for its red wines. Aux Malconsorts is a Premier Cru of exceptional pedigree, situated on the southern border of the legendary La Tâche Grand Cru, and is widely considered to be of Grand Cru quality. This makes it a 【Premier Cru bordering La Tâche Grand Cru, often considered Grand Cru quality】.
The 2023 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Malconsorts, despite undergoing a rather late malolactic fermentation, is showing extremely well. It wafts from the glass with notes of cherries and cassis mingled with exotic spices and burning embers. It is medium to full-bodied, layered and textural, rich and fleshy, with sweet tannins and a long, expansive finish. Further tasting notes include Morello cherry, ripe raspberry, blackcurrant, rose, peony, sweet spices, black tea, precious wood, incense, licorice, light musk, subtle smoke, and emerging undergrowth. It is described as sensual, on the cusp of red and black fruit, with energy provided by the whole bunches.
🥂 This is a collector's Burgundy, perfect for special occasions, a fancy dinner party, or for cellaring to enjoy its evolution over 20 to 25 years. Decanting in its youth will help to highlight its complex bouquet and soften the tannic structure.
🍴 This wine calls for cuisine of great precision. It will elegantly elevate roasted pigeon, farm-raised truffled poultry, pink veal fillet with reduced jus, or delicately grilled beef. It also shines with sophisticated vegetable dishes centered around forest mushrooms, roasted root vegetables, or cereals flavored with fine herbs. Other excellent pairings include salmon, duck, mushroom dishes, gamey meats, roast white meats, braised dishes, and steak.
