🏰 The 2018 Emmanuel Rouget Savigny les Beaune comes from a vintage in Burgundy generally known for its ripeness and generosity. However, this particular wine from the highly sought-after Emmanuel Rouget estate manages to be "surprisingly balanced and almost elegant for a 2018," while still offering "nice dark ripe fruit." Emmanuel Rouget is celebrated for his meticulous winemaking and limited production, making his wines highly allocated. The aromatics are often described as ultra-ripe and well-spiced with gobs of red fruit. Some notes mention a more perfumed, floral bouquet with wilted rose petal and potpourri scents, alongside red currant and cranberry fruit. On the palate, it can be dense yet balanced, with a silky texture and fine-grained tannins, showing no overt signs of the vintage's heat, with fruit leaning red and tart. This wine offers a lovely expression of Pinot Noir, combining power with finesse. 【Highly sought-after producer with meticulous winemaking】
🍴 This versatile red Burgundy would be excellent with classic French bistro fare. Think coq au vin, roasted guinea fowl, mushroom tarts, or a delicate cheese platter featuring soft, earthy cheeses. Its balance allows it to pair well with both richer poultry and lighter game.
🥂 Enjoy this wine at a refined dinner with friends, a Burgundy-themed tasting, or as a special treat on a quiet evening. It's approachable now but has the structure to evolve gracefully over several years.
BACKGROUND
Domaine Emmanuel Rouget was founded in 1985 in Burgundy, France. The wines produced by the estate quickly gained a legendary status among collectors worldwide. The winery is located in Flagey-Echézeaux. In addition to Pinot Noir, Emmanuel Rouget also uses Gamay for winemaking and produces high-quality white wines from Aligoté in the Burgundy region. Emmanuel Rouget is considered a successor to Henri Jayer's winemaking philosophy, adhering to the "non-interventionist" approach from cultivation to production.
