Robert Groffier, Gevrey Chambertin Les Seuvrees, 2018
🏰 Robert Groffier's 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Seuvrees is a 【vivid and elegantly structured Pinot Noir from a "cool" and well-balanced vintage】, offering a glimpse of Grand Cru character from its privileged village plot. This dark crimson wine opens with a deep, classic Burgundy perfume of wild berries and black cherries, evolving into notes of licorice, sweet spices, and a subtle mineral thread. The palate is medium-bodied, refined, and purposeful, showcasing pure red and blue fruit with lively acidity and fine, velvety tannins. Expect an aftertaste echoing fruit, earth, iron, and tobacco notes, leading to a persistent finish. While approachable in its youth, this wine is built for aging, with its full potential blossoming around 2027–2040.
🍴 This elegant Pinot Noir is a beautiful match for roast duck breast or other game birds, especially with a berry or cherry jus. It also harmonizes wonderfully with mushroom dishes like wild mushroom risotto, herb-crusted lamb or veal, and medium-aged soft or semi-soft cheeses. Classic pairings include braised beef in sauce or a fine cut of red meat.
🥂 Ideal for a reflective evening, a winter dinner, or a sophisticated gathering where a nuanced and age-worthy red Burgundy is appreciated. Serve at around 15°C, with a gentle decant of 30-60 minutes if enjoying in its younger years.
