Chateau Grand-puy-lacoste, Lacoste-borie, 1990
Red
750ml
Label : Very Slightly Bin Stained Label
Level : Neck Level Filled
🏰 The 1990 Lacoste-Borie from Chateau Grand-Puy-Lacoste is a 【monumental Pauillac vintage】 that has truly come into its own, evolving at a glacial pace to offer prolonged pleasure. This Bordeaux red boasts a gorgeous bouquet of black fruit, potpourri, graphite, and melted tar, with a deep garnet core. On the palate, it's full-bodied, plush, and expansive, with impressive glycerin and purity, and an endearing texture. Expect sweet, round, and opulent notes, with a long, powerful finish.
🍴 This classic Pauillac pairs beautifully with rich, savory dishes. Think roasted lamb with herbs, a hearty beef bourguignon, or even a truffle-infused pasta. For an Asian twist, consider a slow-cooked Cantonese beef brisket or a rich duck confit.
🥂 Perfect for a milestone anniversary dinner or a sophisticated gathering of wine connoisseurs. Given its age, expect some sediment; decant for 2-4 hours to allow it to fully open up and remove any sediment. Serve at 15.5 degrees Celsius (60 degrees Fahrenheit) for optimal freshness and lift. Old corks and capsules can be fragile, so open with care.
BACKGROUND
Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste is a wine estate situated on a hillock (or puy) above the village of Bages in the Pauillac region of the Médoc. Classified as a fifth growth in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification. The vineyard is sited around the château and covers 55 hectares (136 acres) of the wider estate. It is planted 75 percent to Cabernet Sauvignon, 20 percent Merlot and 5 percent Cabernet Franc. The soil is a classic Médoc mix of layers of gravel of differing depths, mixed with sand and a little clay. This allows excellent drainage and moderates day-night fluctuations in temperature to help ripen the crop. Pauillac's proximity to the Gironde estuary moderates weather extremes and helps to guard against frost.
