🏰 The 1999 M. Chapoutier Côte Rôtie La Mordorée is a powerful and dense Syrah from a classic Northern Rhône vintage. Robert Parker hailed it as "the finest he has produced since the 1991," noting its "inky purple" color and intense notes of "smoky blackberries, creosote, and espresso." The wine is full-bodied and structured, with firm tannins and vibrant acidity balancing concentrated fruit, leading to a rich, long finish. Expect a bouquet of blackberry, cassis, dark cherry, black pepper, violet, and smoked meat, accented by earthy minerality and subtle oak. This wine is considered a collector's gem with excellent aging potential, still drinking beautifully today and promising further evolution. 【 Finest produced since 1991, a collector's gem 】
🍴 This robust Côte Rôtie is an ideal partner for roasted beef, grilled game, or aged cheeses. It also pairs well with classic meat dishes like veal, pork, lamb, duck, and roast chicken, as well as hearty fish courses like tuna, and even Asian-inspired dishes.
🥂 Perfect for a grand dinner, a special celebration, or a serious wine tasting focused on mature Rhône wines. Its complexity and depth will reward thoughtful appreciation.
BACKGROUND
Maison M. Chapoutier is one of the most recognizable producers in the Rhône Valley. It is known for its wines from both the north and south of the valley, but in particular for its red and white Hermitage wines, made from Syrah and a blend of Marsanne and Roussanne, respectively.Outside of the flagship vineyards in Hermitage, Chapoutier has vineyards across the Rhône, including plots in Côte Rôtie, Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Condrieu. These span both single-vineyard expressions and generic AOC-level wines. Chapoutier also makes regional Côtes du Rhône wines, and has viticultural interests in Australia (Domaine Tournon), Portugal and Alsace.
