🏰 The 2000 vintage in the Northern Rhône was generally good, yielding wines that were often approachable earlier but still possessed good structure and aging potential. E. Guigal's Côte Rôtie "Brune et Blonde" is a classic expression, blending grapes from the richer "Brune" and more aromatic "Blonde" slopes. Côte Rôtie wines are renowned for their smoky, spicy aromas of bacon fat, coffee, earth, herbs, leather, white pepper, black pepper, and game, complemented by refreshing notes of blackberry, black cherry liqueur, raspberry, and cassis. The Viognier component often adds elegant floral aromatics of violet. 【An iconic Northern Rhône Syrah blend from a legendary producer】.
🍴 This Côte Rôtie pairs exceptionally well with hearty red meat dishes. Specific suggestions include cassoulet, beef brisket, venison, roasted duck, beef stroganoff, lamb, and rabbit. Roasted duck, lamb shanks, herb-crusted rack of lamb, and venison stew are also excellent matches, with the wine's acidity cutting through fat and its flavors complementing gamey notes. Steak au poivre is another classic French dish that beautifully complements Côte Rôtie's distinct pungent flavor.
🥂 This 2000 Côte Rôtie is an excellent choice for a gourmet dinner, a special occasion celebrating French cuisine, or for a connoisseur exploring mature Northern Rhône Syrah.
BACKGROUND
E Guigal is one of the most famous wine producers in the Rhône. The company was founded in 1946 by Etienne Guigal in Ampuis on the west bank of the Rhone, just a stone's throw from the famous sun-baked slopes of the Côte Rôtie. Guigard's flagship wines are the famous "LaLa": La Landonne, La Mouline and La Turque. La Landonne is 100% Syrah, from 40-year-old vines and aged in oak barrels for a similar amount of time.
