🏰 The 2006 Joseph Drouhin Bonnes Mares Grand Cru is a stellar example of how a challenging vintage in Burgundy can still yield wines of profound complexity. Despite a tumultuous growing season with a damp, cool spring and a hot, dry July followed by a cooler, wetter August, a warm September saved the day for many vignerons. This Bonnes Mares is noted for its 【great breed and complex aromas of Morello cherry, cherrywood, and raspberry】, with hints of tobacco, truffle, and musk developing with age. Critics praised its seductive nose, full panoply of red, blue, and black fruit aromas, and a beguiling texture, calling it exceptionally classy and perfectly balanced.
🍴 This Grand Cru Burgundy, with its elegance and depth, is an exquisite pairing for sophisticated dishes. Think roasted game birds like pheasant or squab, beef Wellington, or a rich coq au vin. For an Asian-inspired pairing, consider a delicate Cantonese braised abalone or a refined Peking duck, where the wine's complexity can complement the umami and savory notes.
🥂 An excellent choice for a milestone celebration, a formal dinner, or a serious tasting among Burgundy aficionados. This wine is in a great spot right now, boasting notes of plums and dark berries, punctuated by earthy and floral elements. It has a firm yet finessed tannin structure, rewarding those who patiently cellar such treasures.
BACKGROUND
Joseph Drouhin is one of Burgundy's most important wine producers, France. The primary grape variety is Pinot Noir, with a small portion being Chardonnay. Founded in Beaune in 1880, the domaine has expanded throughout the 20th Century to include vineyards in Chablis, the Côte de Nuits, the Côte de Beaune and the Côte Chalonnaise, making everything from simple, village-level cuvées to highly priced grand cru and premier cru wines from Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
