🏰 The 2008 Marquis de Calon, the second wine of Chateau Calon-Segur, is a 【deliciously easy-drinking and expressive Bordeaux】 from a vintage that favored the Right Bank. This wine offers a 【deep purple-black color】 and bursts with 【bombastic scents of stewed black plums, crème de cassis, and blueberry pie, nuanced with violets, licorice, and a waft of menthol】. The medium to full-bodied palate is full of 【juicy black fruits with plush tannins and just enough freshness】, culminating in a spicy finish. It's praised for its immediate enjoyment and velvety texture, making it a charming introduction to the Calon terroir.
🍴 This versatile red Bordeaux pairs beautifully with grilled or roasted red meats, poultry, and hearty dishes featuring earthy notes from mushrooms or truffles. It also complements grilled chicken, beef, and a variety of classic meat dishes.
🥂 Perfect for a relaxed dinner party, a casual gathering with friends, or simply enjoying a well-crafted Bordeaux that offers both immediate pleasure and a glimpse into the elegance of its Grand Vin.
BACKGROUND
Chateau Calon-Segur is an estate located in the commune of Saint-Estephe on the left bank of the Gironde River in Bordeaux, which was rated as a third growth in the 1855 Classification of the Medoc and Graves. Calon-Segur's vineyards are planted on clay and gravel soil, giving the finished wines power and finesse. While Cabernet Sauvignon is dominant in the wines, Merlot and Cabernet Franc are planted as well, providing blending opportunities. The grand vin is aged in new oak, fined with egg whites and produced in relatively small quantities – 80,000 bottles – every year.
