🏰The 2023 Duroche Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru, from a promising Burgundy vintage, is poised to be a powerful and structured expression, reflecting the depth of this esteemed terroir. While still very young, early indications for Charmes-Chambertin from the 2023 vintage suggest a wine with a dark color and an exotic, sumptuously ripe fruit profile. Expect notes of black cherries, star anise, fireplace embers, and turned earth, with a muscular yet medium-bodied palate. Hints of black tea and plums are likely to linger on a flattering, mouthcoating finish, showcasing density and depth balanced by fresh acidity.
🍴 This powerful Grand Cru will be an excellent match for robust dishes such as roasted venison, beef bourguignon, or slow-cooked lamb. It will also pair beautifully with rich poultry dishes like duck confit or guinea fowl, and aged, firm cheeses.
🥂 An exciting acquisition for collectors looking to cellar a promising young Burgundy Grand Cru. Ideal for future grand celebrations, significant anniversaries, or as a prestigious investment wine.
BACKGROUND
Domaine Duroche is a famous manor located in Gevrey-Chambertin in the Côte de Nuits region of Burgundy. The winery is owned and operated by Pierre Duroché, the fifth generation of the Duroché family, and specializes in the production of Pinot Noir red wine. The winery grows grapes in four Grand Crus, first planted in 1920 and now has a total of about 8 hectares (20 acres) of vines. Situated on soil rich in limestone and containing small amounts of sand marl. Wine is made without fining or filtration. In addition to its Grand Cru vineyards, it also owns three Gevrey-Chambertin Premier Cru vineyards. The winery produces five village wines from the village of Côte de Nuits, as well as two Burgundy wines, one of which is a Chardonnay-based Burgundy white.
