🏰 The 2018 Stéphane Ogier Côte Rôtie Leyat is a red wine from the Northern Rhône, a region celebrated for its Syrah-based wines. Domaine Stéphane Ogier is a well-regarded estate known for its dedication to producing high-quality wines that express the region's emblematic terroirs. The 2018 vintage in Côte Rôtie was characterized by a warm and dry summer, favoring optimal ripening and rich aromatic complexity in the grapes. This particular wine, Leyat, comes from the Côte Brune, just above the Côte Bodin, and is described as having a powerful, masculine style.
【Powerful and masculine Côte Rôtie from a warm, ripe vintage】 showcasing rich aromatic complexity.
🍴 This 2018 Côte Rôtie Leyat exhibits a deep ruby red with purple hues. The nose offers intense aromas of ripe black fruits, violet, spicy notes, and a hint of smoke. On the palate, it is balanced and structured with silky tannins, good freshness, and a long, slightly peppery finish. It pairs excellently with aged rib of beef, herb-crusted rack of lamb, black Périgord truffle, or pan-seared foie gras with mild spices. It also complements beef brisket, venison, duck, and beef stroganoff.
🥂 Ideal for an important business dinner, a wedding anniversary, or a gourmet dinner among connoisseurs. It can be enjoyed now but will gain complexity over 10 to 15 years, with an expected peak between 2028 and 2035. Decanting for 1 to 2 hours is recommended for younger vintages to open up the wine and release its full aromatic profile.
