FEATURES
🏰 The 2004 Franz Hirtzberger Hochrain Riesling Smaragd is a magnificent example of 【aged Austrian Riesling from a top Wachau producer】, showcasing the incredible longevity and complexity these wines can achieve. The Smaragd designation indicates a dry, full-bodied wine of exceptional ripeness. The 2004 vintage in Wachau was generally very good, producing wines with excellent balance and structure, allowing them to age gracefully. Expect a captivating bouquet of petrol, honey, dried apricots, and a distinct minerality. On the palate, it will be rich and concentrated, with a vibrant acidity that keeps it fresh, leading to a long, evolving finish.
🍴 This mature Riesling is superb with richer dishes. Consider roasted pork belly, confit de canard, or a rich seafood stew. For an Asian pairing, try crispy roasted duck or a spicy Thai green curry (the wine's acidity can cut through the richness). It also pairs wonderfully with aged hard cheeses.
🥂 This wine is ideal for a 【special anniversary dinner, a serious wine collector's tasting, or a celebratory meal】 where you want to experience the profound evolution of a world-class Riesling.
Serving an older wine like this 2004 vintage requires a bit of care. The cork might be fragile, so use a good quality corkscrew. Decanting for 30-60 minutes can help it open up and allow any sediment to settle, but be mindful not to over-aerate, as very old wines can fade quickly. Serve slightly chilled, around 10-12°C (50-54°F), to best appreciate its complex aromas and flavors.
