🏰 The 2022 Huet Vouvray Le Mont Moelleux is a fascinating Chenin Blanc that impressively reflects the exceptional quality of the vintage through its unique balance of residual sweetness, minerality, and vibrant acidity. The 2022 vintage in Vouvray was marked by warm conditions, yielding ripe, complex grapes. Despite being the second earliest harvest in the estate's history, it lasted six weeks due to heterogeneous ripeness, showcasing the unique character of the Le Mont vineyard site with its deep flint-clay soil over Turonian tuff limestone. This wine is a Moelleux, meaning it has 45 to 55 grams of residual sugar, precisely 51 grams in this vintage, yet the sweetness is beautifully balanced by vibrant acidity and pronounced minerality. It has received high praise, including 95 points from Vinous.
👃 Expect an emerging golden yellow color with youthful luster. The nose is characterized by an almost mystical density of quartz stone and smoke, with flashes of kumquats, ripe pineapple, fresh apples, curry leaves, and apple skin. On the palate, it's concentrated and multi-layered, with ripe fruit, grapefruit, bitter oranges, tobacco, and stone, leading to a flint and salt finish. It offers a harmonious blend of sweet and zesty notes, featuring ripe pear, apricot, and orange peel flavors, blended with a trace of honey and a soft chalky undertone. Despite its sweetness, it remains light and refreshing, with a graceful finish of soft acidity and a delicate floral fragrance.
🍴 A versatile companion for double cutlet with caramelized apple and garam masala, goose terrine with pears and pistachios, or spiced pumpkin with cardamom and turmeric. It also pairs well with seafood like grilled scallops or shrimp in a lemon-butter sauce, poultry dishes such as roasted chicken with herbs, fresh salads with citrus vinaigrettes, light pasta dishes with creamy sauces, foie gras, and various desserts like vegan lemon cake, summer pudding, or key lime pie.
🥂 This exquisite sweet white wine is perfect for celebrations or cozy dinners, enhancing any wine experience. Its enormous aging potential (two decades and more are realistic) also makes it a fantastic wine for cellaring and enjoying in the future.
