Henri Boillot, Puligny Montrachet Clos De La Mouchere 1er Cru, 2016
🏰 The 2016 Henri Boillot Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru 'Clos de la Mouchère' is a standout white Burgundy from a challenging yet ultimately rewarding vintage. The year 2016 in Burgundy was marked by severe spring frosts, followed by an excellent summer and harvest period, leading to low yields but excellent white wines with freshness and concentration. This wine comes from a rare monopole vineyard, meaning Henri Boillot owns the entire designated climat, allowing for exceptional consistency and terroir expression. Critics have praised this vintage, with Vinous giving it 95 points and Burghound 96 points. 【 Rare monopole vineyard ensuring unique terroir expression 】
👃 The bouquet is compelling, revealing layers of white stone fruits, citrus blossoms, and distinctive mineral notes. Aromas of ripe pear, lemon zest, white flowers, toasted hazelnuts, and honey emerge with aeration. On the palate, it demonstrates exceptional balance and complexity, with a rich yet refined, creamy mouthfeel carrying flavors of citrus, stone fruits, and persistent mineral notes. It offers a brilliant golden color with subtle green reflections.
🍴 This elegant Puligny-Montrachet is an excellent companion to fish, shellfish, poultry, and a variety of cheeses. Consider pairing it with delicate fish, seafood in creamy sauces, or even richer poultry dishes.
🥂 This wine is drinking beautifully now but has remarkable aging potential, with some suggesting it can evolve gracefully until 2035. It's ideal for special occasions, celebratory dinners, or as a sophisticated aperitif.
BACKGROUND
Domaine Henri Boillot is a wine producer based in Meursault, France, is renowned for its red and white wines from Côtes de Beaune appellations. Chardonnay and Pinot Noir are the primary grape varieties featured. The estate was named Domaine Jean Boillot until 2005, but was changed when Henri Boillot bought out his siblings in order to distinguish it from his brother's new Domaine Jean-Marc Boillot. Henri had previously set up Maison Henri Boillot for négociant wines and retains these labels to distinguish them from estate wines.
