🏰 The 1989 Henri Rebourseau Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru hails from a generally very good Burgundy vintage, producing 【ripe, generous, and charming wines with good concentration and structure】. This is a fully mature red 布根地, offering a profound experience with complex tertiary aromas of 【dried red fruits, forest floor, truffle, leather, game, and sweet spices】. The tannins would be fully integrated and silky, leading to a lingering, savory finish, and the color would likely be a brick-red or garnet with orange hues at the rim.
🍴 This exceptional mature red 布根地 pairs exquisitely with classic dishes like roasted game birds (pheasant, duck), coq au vin, beef bourguignon, or mushroom dishes, especially those with truffles. It also complements aged, earthy cheeses like Epoisses or Comté.
🥂 A rare and exceptional treat for a very special occasion, perhaps a significant birthday or anniversary for a Burgundy lover. This wine is at its peak or gracefully declining, offering a profound and contemplative experience.
Serving suggestion: This is a very old wine, so extreme care is needed. Expect significant sediment; decant gently a few hours before serving to separate the wine from the sediment and allow it to breathe, but avoid over-aeration. The cork will likely be fragile, so use a specialized opener like a Durand or an Ah-So. Serve at cellar temperature, around 16-18°C (60-64°F). Be prepared for the possibility of a fragile cork or a wine that has passed its prime, though 1989 was a good vintage.
BACKGROUND
Domaine Henri Rebourseau is a well-regarded wine producer based in the village of Gevrey-Chambertin in the northern Côte de Nuits subregion of Burgundy's Côte d'Or heartland. The domaine produces principally red wines from the Pinot Noir variety. The estate began in the mid-19th century when Jean-Baptiste Rebourseau and his wife Louise-Victoire Philippon consolidated vineyard holdings. It was passed to his sons Émile and Henri, and in 1949 to Henri's son Pierre Rebourseau. In 1980, Pierre's grandson Jean de Surrel took over, shifting to organic and biodynamic viticulture. In 2018, Olivier and Martin Bouygues acquired a controlling share. Bénigne and Louis now manage the estate with Hervé Berland.
