FEATURES
🏰From the excellent 1999 Burgundy vintage, Henri Rebourseau's Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru is a very classy and complex wine, showcasing intense black fruits, sweet spices, and a rich, concentrated palate with significant depth and aging potential. The 1999 vintage was excellent for both red and white Burgundies, with top-end Grand Cru Pinot Noir still enjoyable two decades on. The estate owns a large parcel of 47-year-old vines in Clos Vougeot, located directly behind the chateau in the best part of the grand cru. This wine reveals sweet spices and intense black fruits in its aromatics, with a good full red color. It can be extremely tannic (nearly astringent) in its youth, with blackberry, herb, and stone flavors, and sometimes medicinal aromas of cherry, licorice, and herbs. Lavishly oaked with creamy and toasty aromas, it offers a good core of underlying fruit. Medium- to full-bodied, with good intensity of clever oak, blackberries, cassis, smoke, blood orange, and mineral, it is complex and thick-textured, with lots of well-integrated fruit, concentration, and depth. Earthy notes of leather and forest floor, red fruit (cherry, raspberry, cranberry), and black fruit (blackberry, plum) are also present.
🍴 Excellent with duck, goose, and game birds. Also pairs well with roasted poultry, mushroom dishes, or aged cheeses.
🥂 A superb choice for a special occasion, a vertical tasting of Burgundy, or for a connoisseur appreciating mature Pinot Noir. The 1999 Henri Rebourseau Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru is a mature wine from an excellent vintage, offering complex tertiary aromas and flavors. While it should still be enjoyable, older wines can be delicate. Expect notes of sweet spices, black fruits, and earthy undertones. Always check the cork and capsule carefully, and consider decanting to allow it to breathe and shed any sediment.
